May I recommend you go to no less than LTO 4 tapes for your next machine?
LTO1-6 all use the same cleaning cartridge. Can you hook up a LTO4 to
that machine? Doing this now, even if you need a new interface card (like
fiber) may really help when it comes to migration time.
