Good points. But considering where he is in life it's not a bad
gesture. Perhaps that is just what it is. How philanthropic are other
wealthy people with their money from a percentage factor? I don't know.

You could also compare percentages with the super wealthy of old using
the time value for money - 10B is unheard of but take that back a while
and the sum isn't quite as large. I wonder how it would compare...

Regardless, just because I buy into the possibility of him being a good
giver doesn't mean I buy into the H1B issue at all. So don't shoot me
at that. I will have to find it but a year or two ago he had a quote
about China doing capitalism better than anyone else. What he meant to
say is that they kept benefits to a minimum (or nothing) and it was
virtually impossible to sue a company. At a minimum a good number of
his thoughts are not humanitarian in nature.

However, the Foundation is amazing. I'm sure there are causes that we
may not agree with but as a whole - wow.

Amazing philanthropy.

I haven't quite made up my mind on the "amazing philanthropy" aspect
yet.

If I was worth $50B, I might not be concerned about turning $10B or
more over to charity. When you get into the [fabulously wealthy for
the rest of your life and probably at least for the rest of all your
grandchildren's lives] range, it doesn't have much of an effect on
your lifestyle to give away 20% or more of your monetary assets.

But if you're only worth $50K, then it's a big deal to give away 20%.

How rough is life when you "only" have $30B left over? It still
feels like a kind of 'marketing' to me.
