And I think I would need to see more of that
code generated stuff to see how easy it is to change. I think we would
be at the mercy of the generator. I've never been one much for code
generators myself.

You're missing the point. You only use EGL for the GUI, much the same way
you use SDA for the green screen. You design the page using "records" (in
effect, data structures), and then you either call RPG programs or use SQL
statements to populate the data.

You don't have to maintain the generated code; it's very much like embedded
SQL. It does it under the covers (except the debugging is a little better
than embedded SQL).
