Exactly...and that's where IBM is missing the boat. We throw around
terms like single level storage and integrated work management, and
we're all cool with that...but that assistant CFO doesn't much care.
You gotta sell to the buyers.

Nope. That would be the new assistant CFO I spoke of earlier.

And the purchasing guy makes the decision about what software and
hardware to acquire, and what technology to embrace?

And really, the web programmer *should* be making things look pretty,
and the business rules guy should be writing the code for the MRP
calcs. One of the things on the System i is that we (programmers) do
the business logic and the data access and the presentation. Which we
can do, primarily because the presentation isn't pretty. It's
functional, maybe more functional than a web page, but it's not
pretty.

In a lot management/financial types they are, because the perception is
a
System i programmer can ONLY do green screen and you are paying for OLD
skills.

"Show me a web programmer who can discuss the calculations necessary for
an
MRP run. I have yet to see one who could produce a balance sheet."

Agreed but again to "those in charge" it's more important to make the
results from that MRP run or balance sheet, look pretty.......
