Paul,
Whatever you think, outsourcing is not going to go away because we stopped
one guy from contributing at COMMON. And from what I have seen, Rajan has
a
willingness to contribute - something rare in a world of poor-me and
what-is-in-it-for-me.
From their site: "MindTree is a multi-cultural, multinational
organization."
I know you have been personally affected by outsourcing, and that makes
you
less open to a global world. But wouldn't the world be a better place if
we
stopped all this "USA is better - go home" stuff?
That is not my perspective. My perspective is that Rajan, by the very
nature of his business, would like to take my job away, as well as thousands
more belonging to my colleagues-in-arms across the country, and send them to
India. Is this who I want representing me at COMMON?
Is Rajan (and his company) the problem? I think he/they are part of the
problem, but the blame can go to the short-sighted corporate bean counters
here in the U.S. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, I'll
"accept" off-shoring the day that corporate big-wigs allow their own jobs to
be outsourced to India. This is not unimaginable, given the Dilbert-esque
manager stories that tend to dominate the business news. Imagine the *huge*
savings that would make for corporations.
Right now, India's
standard of living is improving - but they have got a long way to go to
catch up to what we are lucky to have in America.
"Lucky"? That is total BS, Trevor, this country earned its prosperity fair
and square.
Spreading the global
wealth means more people - on the planet - will have more.
And we will have less, make no mistake about that. We are quickly moving
towards a two-class citizenship, eliminating the middle class, which for the
most part will fall into the lower class. Someone tell me how this is good
for the United States in the long term.
How did we ever decide that we should enrich other nations' citizens at our
expense? What other country on this planet does this? Wasn't our status as
the world's most generous citizenship enough? Apparently, some believe we
should just eliminate all borders and let the U.N. govern everyone,
everywhere in a perfect socialist world.
No, "outsourcing is not going to go away because we stopped one guy from
contributing at COMMON." But I do not want someone whose job it is to move
mine to India to represent me. Otherwise, a vote for him is an endorsement
of that practice.
Sorry you don't see it that way. If you haven't lived through it, you will
have a different perspective than those of us who have.
