While I'm not a big fan of rebranding and I'm one of those die hard AS/400 bigots.....I've been thinking about this a lot. Couple of points to think of.... 1.) IBM as a corporation sees the Power 5 architecture as one that gives them a large technical advantage over the other hardware vendors. I realize that will open other debates but I do believe they think so. They want to create an excitement around it. 2.) Now, having said that....an interesting consideration is that you have the iSeries leading the way for Power 5. IBM's first commercial foray on a very important architecture. 3.) An interesting problem is that there still seems to be a number of uninformed people out there. We don't have to go into whose fault that is. But sometimes to the uninformed the term AS/400 means old....If I5 and I5/OS creates some to believe it's been re-invented I guess I'm for it. 4.) Confusion. Interesting point especially since I'm one of those that uses AS/400, iSeries, and probably I5 interchangeably. 5.) If this rebranding is combined with some better differentiation I think it will be good. If the new P5 and I5 is going to be like the old eServer/black box campaign.....ugh.... Good news is that there is some very nice hardware announcements coming, some nice pricing actions, some decent OS changes, and perhaps a bit of a new attitude within IBM......I'll go for it. Wish I could be there! > Wow...just think of all the web pages that are gonna have > to change(and break) and all those neat manuals(never mind) > that will be coming with this new product. > > My heart can't take many more announcements from IBM. > > Pretty soon this box is gonna be like that game > "Where is Waldo ?" > > Now...the really big question..
