I have not read all the threads, excuse me if views already presented. I compiled an seu like xedit-like freeware version for AIX in C and it worked great. I don't think binaries were available. AIX was pretty new at the time. It was a "your on your own" solution without the open-source team/committee part IIRC. My only purpose was that I could not live with vi. I don't think I had too many places to go to for help. http://hessling-editor.sourceforge.net/ Good luck on emulating the iSeries code prompts. My thought: If you go the opposite way from open-source, you serve a different purpose I think but also eventually go to an embedded system. I don't want my 747 flight running open source. I don't want to stand in line at Wal-Mart unless their running IBM POS. IBM POS is a little more obscure than OS/400 and rock solid. and we (iSeries folks) push the obscurity benefits every chance we get. With few exceptions, I see no freeware/open source that is worth much more if you consider everything and imagine your future is hinging on this decision. I see it is a great training/testing/prototype method. In the old days, we did not waste time with impossibly cryptic .CONF files but focused on the business (and storage dumps).
