Just two words: Babel Fish BTW: I have a leather-bound collection of the Hitchhikers books- the "Ultimate" Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy... (which, when I bought it several years ago, consisted of the "trilogy", according to Adams, of the first four books - "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", "The Restaurant At the End of the Universe", "Life, the Universe, and Everthing", and "So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish") that looks somewhat like a bible. This was before the final book, "Mostly Harmless", was released. Doug Adams was in Austin a couple of years ago at CompUSA promoting his HHGTTG game. I got him to autograph the "Ultimate" book!
