Technically you do not own any of the software you just have the right to
use it and can transfer the license. But the OS comes with the AS/400 and
can be transferred now with the AS/400 now. Back before V4 it could not be
transferred to another party (you could transfer to another AS400 you owned
(I think)) and you had to buy the right to use it.

I guess what you need to make sure of is that everyone is using the same
term to mean the same thing. Such as transfer, is that to the same company
different machine, same machine different company.

But OS/400 V4 (and above) comes with the AS/400 and stays with it.

I tried to find the license agreement on the web but did not see it. But in
my printed version it says When the iSeries or AS/400 system is
transferred, you must also transfer the "Software License Key" sheet for
OS/400. It also says OS/400 (except for non-zero priced features of
5722-SS1 OS/400) may not be transferred independently of that machine.

But WDS is not part of the operating system and is a chargeable licensed
product.

Maybe if you posted the description or feature number they are charging you
for, someone could say if that is normal or not.
