Often it depends on how often you look at them.
We query them quite often. Do you really want to restore on a frequent
basis?
And, yes, our journal library is MUCH bigger than our data library. We
have the space.

There are other considerations.
Tape retention. None of our tapes have permanent retention. The longest
is slightly over a year. To overlap that quarter's save. Do you want to
keep them on disk long enough for one of your saves with a longer
retention? Or is a save with a 14 day only retention acceptable?

Does anyone know of any resources or Best Practice guidelines regarding
how long to keep journal objects on the disk? We have journals that are
taking up quite alot of disk space, and I am wondering how long they
normally need to be kept online. At least weekly there are messages in
QSYSOPR indicating a journal has been detached and should be saved.
However, once the journal is saved to tape, how long is it necessary to
keep it on disk?

Thank you,

Doug
