The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
"..I do have open source solutions with a few customers and when it goes down it's no fun at all. Apache I can tell them to run a simple command, look at job logs, etc.
Red Hat is open source, but nothing new goes into Re Hat without first putting it their other open source offering [don't remember its name) so it can be tested by all its users who don't want the costs associated with Red Hat. (Compute that!)
so they use the "freebie" users to test mods and new things to satisfaction, then integrate it to the anchor product.
Open source is only held back by domination by big influential enterprises and fixation on copyright and patent law as if it were fair. Numerous examples abound that show it isn't "fair". The "inventor" of irrigation didn't get residuals but certainly benefitted from being the first mover. Tim Berners Lee will get credit forever for liberating Internet protocols.
Besides, set up a corrupt regime to adjudicate "intellectual property" so-called, you get Tesla losing his copyright to radio to copycat (and cheaper) Marcconi, until the U.S. government got years of use out of it and allowed a court to rule that it belonged to Tesla.
How many billions of dollars are wasted by agreements among big companies to share ridiculous patents like Microsoft's "method" for associating country codes with the countries they are associated with!?
And the incandescent light bulb that was still working in a San Francisco fire statio after decades? That patent was bought and shelved for sure.
