Cloud. Most of the questionnaires to get you to the cloud are extremely
detailed. This gives the cloud vendors an escape when you blow through it
and don't answer all the details. This way when the sticker shock hits you
it's on you since YOU didn't size it right. The sticker shock is sending
people back on prem.

We do not have data centers on prem. Our systems are at co-location
centers. Two different data centers about 4-5 hours apart in different
states. Office is located between them. No problem with phones, response
time, etc. If I physically touch the machines twice a year that would be a
lot. When we had systems on prem we had too many issues with our dated
building. A/C, roof leaks, generator maintenance, UPS batteries expiring,
etc. With redundant forms of communication to each data center we're
pretty immune to the idiot with the trenching tool. Also keep in mind that
our main office is not even in the same county as any of our manufacturing
facilities. So, even if the machines were in our main office, would that
count as 'on prem' to the manufacturing facilities? Years ago we did have
over 2 dozen AS/400's (remember those?) with one at each facility. This is
much easier to manage, and, more reliable.
