No. If I ever was aware about this thread, I have forgotten about it.

But your finding is not really surprising me.

It was discovered that adding the H/A Journal Performance option of OS was a much better bang for the buck than SSDs (for that problem at hand).

Well, this is the same trade-off we face over many layers of computing. Write caching does wonders for performance, but you might lose data in face of some kinds of hardware failure or power outage.

Also, all things becoming faster is a thing. Decades ago "tenfold" meant accelerating a task from 100 seconds down to 10. Today, it's a more about 0.1 second compared to 0.01 seconds. Barely noticeable. Depending on the task, though.
