Using internal DNS, can't you put some meaningful title for the link and DNS will translate to the site/page you want?

That was not part of your initial request. :-)

Then you need to build a shorter URL yourself. As stated before, it's not possible to have a text displayed in any existing 5250 emulator and another "hidden" text is sent as URL to the browser.
