If the DD is in library mode, then media and storage will require the tape volume all the time. In sequential mode it will simply load the next tape. There are too many questions about your set up to really answer your question.

on the Save 21 it came up as *REWIND, but I changed it to *LEAVE.
of course, my job log has disappeared, so I will need to try again to
gather more information.

Not sure what the joblog would show what happened on the SAVSYS.
End of media option . . . . . . *REWIND *REWIND, *LEAVE, *UNLOAD
Not sure what the default is on a GO SAVE 21. Option 20. Define save
system and user data defaults doesn't seem to address that.

we don't have BRMS. we have a DataDomain acting as a VTL.
I put my media library device on the Device prompt, and I put individual
volume id's in the volume identifier line. when the SAVSYS was done, and
the SAVLIB *NONSYS prompt was displayed, it showed *MOUNTED for the
volume
id, and the command terminated as it said "*mounted not valid"

By VTL I want to make sure that you mean a Virtual Tape Library and
not a
virtual tape image catalog where you save that stuff to IFS. Some
people
seem to get those confused.

I use a VTL with BRMS and I never get stopped for multiple volumes,
prompted options, etc. I even have it set up to save on multiple
volumes
at once to speed things up. Granted, I use BRMS control groups, which
is
comparable to scripting the save.

I am wanting to run a option 21 (full system save) to my vtl.
it will take multiple volumes, and I would like to say "prompt for
commands" NO so I do not have to stare at the screens.
Has someone done this? maybe this is a instance where I should just
make a
cl program to run the save?
