I experienced this recently an office that was using "PaperCut" software to reign in printer costs. Associates would have to scan their badge on a printer to get access to the printer menu. From there they could then retrieve their output.

Vern,
Thanks much. I?ve never heard of a ID badge scanner on a printer, so this is all new to me. Going to be doing some investigation into that.
I?ll also take a look at the other info you sent to see if there is anything in there we aren?t already doing/aware of.

Ken
I'm not savvy about the whole setup, but output is spooled on a server, not on any printer. I put my company ID badge on a reader on any printer on this floor, maybe others, too. Then I get access to the various functions, including copying, scanning, and printing - I choose printing, and a list of my unprinted stuff is presented, I choose what I want to print, delete if I want to, etc. Nothing has been pushed to the printer until one of us asks for our own stuff.
I think for printing to HP from IBM i, you can set up a network DEVD with DEVCLS *LAN, LANATTACH IP, port 9100, RMTLOCNAME is the IP address - I'm just reporting on something we set up a long time ago.
I think you can also create a remote OUTQ - there's a RMTPRTQ parameter, and for HP it is often 'raw' - here's an article on that detail -
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/recommended-remote-printer-queue-rmtprtq-values-remote-output-queues-rmtoutqs
And here's an excellent video on creating remote OUTQs - you might already know this, so this is for the archives -

Good luck!
