As to the original situation, I "cut the Gordian knot" by the simple
expedient of changing the CL program for the batch job that was running
my report program: instead of running the program directly, it spawned
it off as a separate batch job, under my user profile.
To deal with the problem of the report being in a print queue that was
getting purged before I had time to see the report, I created my own
private queue, and had that second batch job use it as its default.
Of course, that only works because the original batch job runs under a
QSECOFR-equivalent user profile.
