Ha ha, Not just like that, Art. Of course there's more to it. I have
recently learned that Europe is investing in building the largest telescope
on the Atacama desert down in Chile. It should be operating like in 2028 or
so. Don't remember exactly but I think I read something like over 1.5
billion euros! (??) What is the payback for that? Why would countries
altogether invest in such a beast?
They say: "to better understand the origins of the universe". How can you
live better with that? True, nothing, huh?
What do you think of that? So, investing for something that in your
current life you think is not going to get your life to a better condition
is not worthy? I wonder that too! But what I see is that they want the
future to be better. How come? My future?
We are now engaged to give ideas, a task force to make our jobs more
promising, more productive and more wealth-prone.
Why not?
Please! Modernization!!! Isn't it what we want?

Just put a 25 next to all the OS sources, hit F13, search for 10 andfix

I see no chance of the 10-character limit changing in this operatingcomplained, I

Soapbox:
It's sad that we are forced to deal with holdovers from long, long ago.
One example: the limit on command prompts lives on today--it's from the
days of the System/38's 16x64 console. If more customers had
suspect IBM would have made a change (which I'd guess is trivial) to
30this one annoyance.makes
Every executable I deploy has a green-screen command interface; this
manual and automated unit testing demonstrably easier (especially forparameters
service programs). Every batch job executes a command and some
are conditionally prompted. Trying to fit a meaningful description in
future, characters is an exercise in frustration!

With SQL objects this is already possible, and sometime in the
mailingthemaybe we will be able to do everything using only SQL, which would be
fantastic.
What about in the meantime we could have expanded the current 10-char
system object name length to something longer?
This is one item on my wish list, and I could also consider including
underscore character as a valid starting one for such names.
