I think there's a lot of confusion about AFP. AFP hasn't gone away and it probably won't for a long time to come. That said, IBM did discontinue the AFP Utilities which were a green screen (5250) method of maintaining AFP resources. I've never used it so I can say much about it.

We invested in Infoprint Designer which lost support many years ago. The biggest challenge is that it doesn't run on current versions of Windows. I use a VM which doesn't allow anything but what's needed for running it. Don't ask what version of Windows the VM runs. (The options for what to migrate to are not cheap.)

If you can find the AFP print driver, you can use Word or any other program to produce overlays, page segments, etc. (I have done this for some stuff and it works pretty well.) This method does lack some of the advanced features that AFP supported. But for simple overlays, etc., it works fine. The driver is easy to find, but I think there's a cost to it. We obtained it years ago.

Hello:
We are working with a customer on an older box on OS 7.1.? They asked for
us? to change an invoice form overlay.? We tracked it back and it is using
AFP.? The STRAFPU command isn't on the box. I thought AFP support was
discontinued some time ago.? But wanted confirmation before we look at
other options.??
I'll look forward to insight on AFP.? If we are able to use it OS 7.1 or not.
