If we aren't able to use AFP that likely is the direction we'll go.   I just received another response from someone using AFP on OS 7.3 so we may try this first.

We are working with a customer on an older box on OS 7.1.  They asked for us  to change an invoice form overlay.  We tracked it back and it is using AFP.  The STRAFPU command isn't on the box. I thought AFP support was discontinued some time ago.  But wanted confirmation before we look at other options.  
I'll look forward to insight on AFP.  If we are able to use it OS 7.1 or not.
