If you are not using the system why pay for maintenance?

I understand and do not condemn IBM for pricing P8 HWMA way up, those systems are at EOL. But the increases on P10 and P9 are hard to swallow.

The “cloud” strategy will fail just like “client server” did. Once folks realize that the costs will eventually be higher and the loss of control and management of the system is in the hands of offshore folks, the light will shine on it. I’ll be retired by then but amused at the lack of historical understanding of our business.

So if I move to the cloud in the next month should I just not pay it? lol

There they go...

I don't like the idea of trusting your IT infrastructure completely to 3rd
party, IBM or not.

My son worked awhile at Burger King. The head IT guy at the time there
outsourced *everything*. My son was one of the last few techs out the door.
(The IT director kept his own job there, presumbably). Talking about it,
the rationale was just "We make hamburgers".

Yes, pricing is set to drive folks out of old equipment into the cloud.
The best going out of business strategy IBM has come up with in some
time. Go from 1000s of support agreements to 100s.

Subscription pricing looks like it’s adjusted to reflect all the
“included
software “ and SWMA plus a bit of an increase but not as bad as old
hardware support.

Did everyone else's HWMA go up almost double in 2024 from 2023?

Just checking. Seems fishy. Especially since the hardware in
question
EOS
in April 2024.
