Before the %STATUS BIF, we would use the status subfield of the Program Status Data Structure (PSDS, for program errors) or the status subfield of the file information data structure (INFDS) for file-related errors.
It will contain the exact same numbers -- just retrieving them from a different place.
Well, if you want to read or write a date/time/timestamps from/to an RPG variable, you first need to MOVE or or EVAL the content from/to the internal/external variable. I feel that's cumbersome compared to the handling of string, or numeric variables.
Weird... I'm pretty sure I've never needed to do that.
Of course, it's *much* less painful than handling date/time values with C. ;-)
