I use Green Shot all the time with Windows and Mac.
Mac has had "ever since" saved a complete screen shot with Cmd-Shift-3, and for many years (in OS X) Cmd-Shift-4, which allows you to choose which window to "photograph" by subsequently pressing space, hovering with the mouse over the target, and click.
