Got it. All these are only ideas to think how RPG could leverage its
potential.

Thanks.

Javier,

IBM S/38 CPF, OS/400, i5/OS and IBM i are all "object based" -- not really
"object oriented" systems. On RISC systems, the SLIC kernel is actually
written in C++ and uses "object-oriented" techniques, but none of that is
visible "above the MI" layer, in OS/400 or IBM i, as far as what the user
sees.

So, yes, IBM i has "objects" but there is no inheritance or polymorphism,
etc. that you can use with those "objects."

One thing to consider and have in mind is that the IBMi operating system
"is" an object-oriented operating system, and it is full of many types of
objects. So, why not drive RPG into something that supports the same
approach as its own host OS? :-)

I'm of the opinion that object orientation is a way of thinking - and
some
languages help to enforce its use. We can write code that is quite
object-oriented now - overloading might be a stretch. But we can think
__in

some ways, I think we had __better__ think that way!

I would venture a guess that overloading, while a great feature, is

It was discussed over 20 years ago and was rejected then as it should
be
now.

That's not to say that there aren't a few more OOP type features that
would be nice - and indeed some have already been added (overloading for
example)

How about start thinking of turning RPG into an OOL?
Is that in mind at IBM?

I think that would be just GREAT!
