USB is a connection, not a device. There are USB flash drives, there are USB cables for DVD drives, there were USB connections for the optical drives now being pulled from marketing.
However, when I think about it, I never used the USB drives being pulled from marketing. Instead I used the USB EUA5 drive from IBM. Like this:
