Reorg while active

A company that I am consulting for is talking about doing a "reorg while
active" on a huge file. From what I can find, this is running RGZPFM with
ALWCANCEL(*YES). Reading the details on the IBM support pages, this
concerns me. Has anyone used this and what are your thoughts?



Does it work well?

Does it kill machine performance while it is running because of all of the
I/O to the file and the journals?

I also believe that they have their journals cached instead of immediate
writing. Does this pose a higher risk than normal due to the amount of data
being moved around if something should something happen to the machine?



I think we have some other options that will take some time and effort but I
think they are looking for the easy way out. I want to know what we are up
against before I start pushing for the other options.
