Right now if there is a SAN boot option there is no excuse for NVMe locally. Strictly from a financial standpoint, the cost of 300Gb on a SAN for a VIOS LUN is WAY cheaper than the NVMe drive internally. Even after including the fibre card.

Performance is going to be just as good, and now you have a multitude of methods to back everything up. Local is good, and it works well, but in a SAN environment it makes no sense whatsoever.

Time for a new partner that understands......
