Another of the things I've found wonderful about VTL is that I've never had a tape drive fail. I remember replacing a few of those on physical tape drives and libraries. I still remember looking through the glass into the physical media library and wondering where that shrapnel came from.
Another thing is no tape media gone bad. I used to run this command regularly to deal with them: WRKMEDBRM TYPE(*ERR). Let's see... reformat them again with a CLEAR(*YES) to really check them out. Often an all day job.
