Thanks Steve.

You're right, Implementer support got back to me, and they have method of adding special commands prior to moving the file into production, and post move commands as well. It does require a custom program to handle the data conversion.

4) Create and promote a special program to convert the data from the old file format to the new file format.

How do the various change management systems handle the promotion of a physical file where a field is being changed from packed numeric to alpha?

My customer is using PTC Implementer, and it works up to the point where it is trying to copy the data from the existing file (with numeric
field) to the new file (with alpha field), then fails

Is this just a situation where manual intervention is required?
