For initial testing I would recommend you download SoapUI

I have found this tool invaluable for testing SOAP services before trying
to code in RPG or SQL

I need to consume a service to get inventory balances. The service is SOAP
based. I was hoping for JSON/REST but they do not support REST. So I have
to use SOAP for now.
