It think it's somewhat like my "tube electronics" hobby. By now each and every CRT with flawed glass cones has imploded and the remaining ones are flawless enough and do not break, eventhough they're nearly 70 years old.
Yes, I realize that DASD is a mechanical contraption and as such suffers from wear and tear. Thus "somewhat". :-)
