If mycompany.com is used externally also (for websites, MX entries pointing to a proper mail relay, etc.) you need to manually make sure the external (internet facing) DNS' content is reflected properly in the internal DNS. That's why you can easily do this — with caution.
Stuff becomes interesting when DNSSEC comes into play. :-)
