I wouldn't call it "locking out" per say. It's just increased security
(ie, protecting us from ourselves).

I've been using GMail for bvstools.com email for many years now. I also
have an Office365 account (as do many of my customers). Guess which one is
never down, and guess which one has issues.... :) Google has been rock
solid for me. O365 on the other hand... eh... it could be better.

through GMail. Even if I'm no fan of the product Toast *does* use
(SmarterMail).

And glad that we never did get around to changing our own
programmatically-generated outgoing email to relay through GMail.
