If IBM removes a feature like this it would likely happen at a version boundary - not at a point release.

But Larry is right, there are sadly far too many people using it for IBM to be able to drop it. I met a BIIG user a couple fo years ago that ran one whole app based on an S/36 vendor package from a vendor long out of business. Converting it would be a major cost as of course would be switching to an alternative app.
