Do I understand fine that the WWPN was never configured on the VTL? I was thinking the opposite, I mean I was thanking that you were restoring on a partition which was already configured on the VTL.

If yes, the need to IPL from another source makes sense to me. Setting the VTL tape drive as alternate installation device will probably work.
