The real bear was getting the wwpn's broadcasting from hmc/vios/IBMi to the DD2500. I could not seem to get it to work as an alternate IPL device. Only an alternate installation device as not until IBM i was in DST would it broadcast the wwpn I could easily see in the profile config in the hmc for that lpar. And you cannot manually enter in the wwpn's. You have to select them from a list.

WWPN? I had misread your initial posts, as I thought it was virtual SCSI based. So, in the VIOS, you have to make sure that the virtual FC server adapter (209 if I understand fine) is mapped to a physical FC adapter. lsmap -all -npiv -fmt ":" VIOS command is your friend. Then you have to make sure that a zone exists on the SAN with the virtual WWPN of the  virtual FC client adapter of your partition (209 as well if I understand fine).

You can find the WWPN of the vFC client adapter of the partition in the profile, or from the HMC with a command like this one:

lshwres -m systemname -r virtualio --rsubtype fc --level lpar -F lpar_name,lpar_id,slot_num,wwpns | grep partitionname
