Ah yes, escape doesn't really help here, but maybe you don't need a LIKE at all, would this work?

declare global temporary table TABLE_1 as (
select * from(values('0110 EXFN 01 ABCD')) x(COL1)
) with data with replace
;;

declare global temporary table TABLE_2 as (
select * from(values('0110 EXFN 01'), ('____ EXFN 01')) x(COL1)
) with data with replace
;;

select *

from TABLE_1 T1

join TABLE_2 T2
on T2.COL1 = left(T1.COL1, length(T2.COL1))

Tim.

I got it now. I'd have to replace all % and _ in one column and then
specify the ESCAPE on the LIKE clause.

Unfortunately, the mailing list corrupted the example you copied from the
SQL reference. Let's see if I have better luck.
SELECT *
FROM TABLEY
WHERE C1 LIKE 'AAAA+%BBB%' ESCAPE '+'

Thanks

You could specify an escape character for the wildcard characters like
this:

SELECT *
FROM TABLEY
WHERE C1 LIKE ?AAAA+%BBB%? ESCAPE ?+?
