I had to reread both emails. You're right, Jerry said "they do not support tape". Which tends to imply all flavors of it. On this I tend to agree with you that the cloud provider has to support some sort of tape. In this case, I would think VTL. Or at least in my primitive knowledge I would tend to think so. Relying solely upon snapshot images done by the SAN doesn't sound quite right. But again, I don't know SAN.
What confused me was Jerry mentioning virtual tape image catalogs and you saying " They should all support VTL." Again, I agree with you that all cloud providers should support VTL but it wasn't what Jerry was talking about.
