You mention Ctrl-S from the menu - are you talking about saving the session or saving the results?  I see that there is a Save results in the separate results window that is also Ctrl-S.

Anyhow, I tried it in the results window with a very simple SELECT (select * from qiws/qcustcdt) and the prompt was displayed immediately.

The other time, the statement was a triple JOIN of nested table expressions - but in that case, it was as I described below - with results in the main window it was almost instantaneous - with results in a separate window, it took forever.

Again, however, I tried something similar, and it was just as fast both in separate window and in the main window.

Guess I have to suspect network speed after all - thanks for the thoughts, though.

Cheers
Vern

I doubt I was the one that mentioned any preference, at first, Kerwin mentioned a setting pattern in his thread at the end.

When I select from the Menu to save or use Ctrl+S its only within a couple seconds that the save dialog is presented. I can only see that remotely would cause it to be slower if it had to reconnect to the a remote file share. I save locally and it always to the same folder. I am an admin on my system but I save to a folder on my Windows Desktop. Does your company use remote workspaces for your desktop (I don't actually recall the proper name for it). Its where they have your user folders stored on a network folder and the link it back to your system. We had a few that had that and everything was slow for them when they accessed from their c:\users\ folder. Create a folder outside of C:\Users to save the results to and see if that improves it.

Subject: Re: ACS RSS Save results takes forever when results in separate window

Hi Matt

Remotely, yes - that's why I usually can't use Content Assist. But I'm saving to the desktop.

The difference is that when I keep results in the main window, it is instant. If I have results in a separate window, it can be 5 minutes or more before the prompt is displayed.

So there is a difference somehow - were you the one who gave us the preference settings to use? There was a 2nd setting, I don't remember.

A good test would be to try saving the results when locally connected, too.

Vern

Are you working remotely and saving to a file share?

Most of the open dialogs that connect to file share locations do take longer when remote and not local my laptop.

Subject: ACS RSS Save results takes forever when results in separate
window

Hi all

There was a recent thread about showing ACS RSS results in a separate window. Also about cursors closed after a set time, which is fantastic.

So I tried the separate windows thing - I'm using 1.1.8.7 - if I select to save results in that windows, it can take several minutes before the prompt for file type and location is displayed.

If I have the results in the main window, that dialog is displayed immediately.

Has anyone else had this happen, or can try it out. I will eventually see if I can submit a ticket, it's not easy here, due to some authority setups.

Cheers
Vern
