Yes, madding is it not? I always watch the disk units, (then again I'm on
site so I can see them) to see if there is activity. If there is, leave it,
there's work going on, if it's more of an OS idle pattern then I suspect
problems.

IBM could do a better job of putting up status screens, but as one developer
explained, those times are when OS updates are happening and they don't get
a break point to assess the progress of the process.

Just sitting at that login screen can take up to an hour?

I am upgrading my vHMC following the steps at:
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6372280
I have ran the step: hmcshutdown -t now -r It started the reboot. It's
been sitting at a screen displaying the following for quite some time now:
IBM Linux 9 (hmc9_0p)
Kernel 4.18.0-193.14.3.el8.im.1.x86_64 on an x86_64
localhost login:
I tried logging in as hscroot. It did not like that. Then it erased the
screen and redisplayed the above.
What do I do?

I have a case opened with IBM on this. However they never get back to you
on the same day regarding HMC issues until you bring the duty manager on the
line. Once it's been here for two hours I will try that route.
