I had not thought of an autostart entry, interesting. I wonder if a short CL with a command that’s added to the startup program as Jack suggested might be the better option, if only to be able to control startup more easily.

Then again if the intent is to segregate open source/ pace load into a particular subsystem then that gives nearly the same control. I’d still make up the command in order to keep the job description simplified in the RQSDTA. Again, interesting thought.

Would it be possible to add a wrapper or even the daemon program itself to the autostart list of a SBS? Sorry for the maybe dumb question. I'm fluent in Linux/Unix, and I'm halfways good in administering OS/400. But my skills how PASE and the CL environment work together are almost zero.

You can create a job with the QSH command in the RQSDTA parameter and the appropriate user profile in the USER parameter. Then add an autostart job entry to the subsystem of your choice with the job name you want and pointing to the job description you created.

Beware that the RQSDTA parameter accepts string value. You may want to test the command to use, copy it and paste it enclosed with quotes in RQSDTA. Something like

RQSDTA('STRQSH CMD(''cd theappropriatedirectory ; shellcommandtostartthedaemon'')')

(not sure about the number of quotes around the shell command ; this is the reason why it must be tested
