LAN console and HMC were tow different things. How are they similar?

There are a number of reasons why it has to be iACS instead of "a plain
TN5250 emulator".
First, there are functions outside of the green screen it does. Like the
GUI part which shows you the front panel codes, allow you to change from
automatic to manual IPL, etc.
Secondly, I suspect it uses a different port number, much like iACS does for
the 5250 part of the shared console when you are using HMC. With iACS
accessing 5250 shared console via hmc you tell it what you are doing and it
handles the port. With the old Client Access for Windows you had to tell it
to use port 2300 (if my memory serves me right).
