Yes (I think) and I don't think so.

The query optimizer definitely changes behavior once it sees the second query; locking the file would be a possible event in that behavior.  At that point, you have to do ALCOBJ CONFLICT(*RQSRLS) if you're trying to get a lock on the file.

If I query the same file again, using the same connection, the file is locked and remains locked after the query is complete.

Is this a case of the query optimizer trying to be efficient?  Is this something that can be controlled using jdbc properties or QAQQINI?

This is happening on 7.2.
