I have to admit confusion.

Why not just set up the outq's in question with Transform Services so all
the output is created as a PDF. Create a share to that users directory (IE:
/home/myuser) where the PDFs reside and let them print at will with the PC?

Too easy, or it breaks "we've always handled output this other way" rules.
Those are the only two reasons I can come up with why it would not work.
Then again I always create users with a home directory anyway so the SSH/SSL
keys and whatnot are stored there so the jump to putting output there is
minor.

Better yet, it's free......(well, buried in the cost of IBM i anyway)

Well...

You could do an initial pgm that determines where the user is signed on at
and chgjob, ovrprtf, etc., accordingly based on a user or table...probably
have to have pgm adopt qsecofr auth....

Does the user have cmd line access? If so a little OJT to show them how to
wrkjob and move splf's around...

The remote emulation would hopefully support a locally attache device that
you could assign a static ID to...I've worked with many that do and I think
even PC Support(insert current name here) supports it as well...

For me, I used the Infoprint server thing, but, we have an exit program
setup in WRKPSFCFG that lets us have one OUTQ for the organization. IBM
improved things a bit after we wrote all that, so if you don't want to go
through that method, a CPYSPLF can also be sent to a PDF stream file, that
could be sent to a shared IFS drive. On that method, you could also setup a
DTAQ to an OUTQ that automatically grabs stuff from an OUTQ, does a CPYSPLF,
and then emails it to the spool owner, or however else you want to figure
out who it should go to.

CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not
click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the
content is safe.

We have employees working from home using a thin client with a locally
attached USB printer.
1) What various options are there to connect/configure this printer to
print from.
2) Must all printing go to an outq. If yes, then I see us creating
personal outqs for these users.
3) This would then also require changing their userprofile to point to
this new outq.
4) This creates a 2nd problem. On days where the employee is back in the
office, they would need to print to their previously configured department
printer.

Another option we are doing is configuring an InfoPrintWriter ( WRKPSFCFG)
with a wild card PDFMAPE that would email any spoolfile in a released status
to themselves.
This requires a separate config and port for each user, and the ability
for users to locate and move the desired spoolfile, (not always an easy
task) and that's if they have the authority to do so.

What are others in the group doing for working from home printing options?

Thank You
