Most likely the same way you currently hide passwords: One string is encrypted with another. You provide the master key to every authorized device, so all authorized devices can decrypt the string.
I guess, the passwords are transmitted to remove instances, and saved in the database in the same encrypted way. You don't need to check if the password is correct, but you need to reverse the encryption process. So you need encryption instead of hashing.
