I'm a wee bit confused by that.
I'm assuming in the first join
Select * from table1 join table 2 on date and type=’FI’
That "date" is in both tables and you want to join the two based on that but wouldn't the statement be
Select * from table1 join table2 on date where type=’FI’

On the second one I'm even more confused.
Select * from table1 join table 2 on type=’I’

As I struggled with this I kept getting more and more confused and I think you'll have to explain better.
