My first computer job was working on a Series/1 (programming in EDL)
that served first as a front end to our S/3, and then later acted as a
controller for S-100 boxes running as async interfaces for things like
POS devices and voice touch-tone.
That's where I learned that there was no such thing as magic in
computers. Except maybe the magic smoke the chips ran on - if a puff of
smoke came out of the chip, it stopped working. :)
