You are right Jack and this is creating serious competition amongst those pursuing this path.
I would advise any of them looking to break into software development to give the ibmi consideration.
There are many ibmi shops still looking for good developers and a lot of these shops are deciding to modernize instead of migrate these days. Rpg these days is a pleasure to work with, especially alongside db2 sql.

Fashionable with the young folks these days are Boot Camps where they get
3-8 month intros to full stack web development.
