First of all why bother with an intermediate Windows server and not just use your console session directly from your PC?
A) I always set up with Console Takeover on (see below). Some find this a pain as when you start your system console session you have to enter a SST userid and password. However if your session dies in the middle of a LONG backup, disk initialization, etc, being able to reconnect right back into the middle of the process is a Godsend.
B) I am using HMC. I always select "Start a shared session". The guy who selected "Start a dedicated session" no longer works here. Share session allows you multiple people to see the session directly from their PC. Really helpful to give remote support without having to mess with Webex, etc. IDK if Lan Console does shared sessions or not. Then again see (A).
