In Active Directory you can assign multiple groups to an id. We have groups like
Internet Users - No Access
Internet Users
Internet Users - Social Media
Internet Users - Unrestricted
Access starts at the top and increases at the bottom.
Of course, here domain admins are in one of the bottom two.
And even though the "techs" have their own accounts they always seem to use "administrator" with a password that hasn't changed in 25 years. However administrator is not assigned one of our vpn groups.
I suspect they use administrator for one of these reasons:
- If they create a scheduled service it won't croak when they change their password.
- They don't want to leave the miniscule number of bytes in the users directory for their id when using remote desktop
- They don't want to be audited
Of course, if I remote desktop somewhere and it says too many are logged on I blast administrator. It's not a "real" person...
